PRESS RELEASE

Sunshine Coast lawyer joins specialist employment law firm

Sunshine Coast Lawyer, Harry McDonald has joined Employment Law firm, Aitken Legal, to focus on becoming a specialist Employment Lawyer.

Harry, who was born on the Sunshine Coast and was recently recognised by the Sunshine Coast Daily as a Top 12 young SC Lawyer will work closely with the firm’s senior lawyers to deliver employment law advice to Employers.

This recruitment comes at a time when Employment Law continues to change and Aitken Legal recognises the need to grow the firm to meet the demand in workplace issues businesses face.  He increases the firm’s team of lawyers to 7, all dedicated to advising Employers on employment related issues.

Harry was admitted as a lawyer in 2018 and spent four years practicing in employment, commercial and property law before joining Aitken Legal from Greenhalgh Pickard.  He is already making a name for himself on the Sunshine Coast as the Vice President of the Sunshine Coast Law Association and a committee member of the Queensland Law Society’s Industrial Law Policy Committee.  He is also completing a Master of Labour Law and Relations at the University of Sydney which is due to be completed in 2022.

He is not new to Aitken Legal as he completed his Practical Legal Training at the firm for 5 months during 2017.

Managing Director, Lisa Aitken commented:

“We are delighted Harry has joined our team again.  Whilst he has some experience in employment law, our senior lawyers are great advocates in mentoring lawyers to become true specialists in their field.  The last couple of years have seen an unprecedented change to the business landscape and expanding our team assists us to continue to meet the increased needs of our clients.”

About the year ahead, Lisa added:

“2022 has already seen an increase in litigation particularly linked to terminations as a result in vaccination mandates.  We also expect to see an increase need for advice and contracts from clients who engage independent contractors following two recent High Court Decisions relating to whether a worker is an independent contractor or an employee.”

Lawyer, Harry McDonald said:

“Since qualifying in Law, my passion for employment law and industrial relations has grown and I am therefore excited to join a team that specialises solely in employment law for employers and has an excellent reputation in Queensland.  The constant change in employment law also keeps me interested and learning.  Being mentored by the best in their industry is a privilege, and I look forward to becoming a true specialist.”
