Senior Associate / Special Counsel – Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast

Are you an experienced Employment Lawyer – Senior Associate or Special Counsel (5+ years PAE) and either living, or would like to live, on the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast?  If so, we have an excellent opportunity for you to join our boutique Employment Law firm in either our Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast office.

The position is available for an immediate start, or we are willing to be flexible for the right person.  It can be part-time initially with the willingness and availability to progress to full-time, or full-time from the start. 

What can you expect from this position?

  • Working only with Employers 
  • Working on interesting and challenging matters 
  • Providing practical strategic advice to clients across all facets of employment law including performance management, termination, redundancies, workplace bullying, sexual harassment, workplace health and safety, managing injured employees, preparing employment contracts and workplace policies, and negotiating / drafting enterprise agreements
  • Defending clients in litigation matters such as unfair dismissal, general protection, discrimination and underpayment claims
  • Undertaking workplace investigations for clients
  • Managing your own matters under supervision and working directly with clients to deliver excellence and build strong ongoing relationships 
  • Working with businesses of varying sizes, from small family businesses to large private corporations across all industries, as well as working with State and Local Government bodies
  • Involvement in business development opportunities, including presenting seminars, webinars, writing articles, attending networking events and working closely with our Client Relationship & Marketing Manager to develop a strong brand within the industry
  • Working with a supportive and collaborative team of lawyers and support staff,  many of whom have 10+ years’ service with the firm, because of our great culture.

To be successful in the role, you will need:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in employment law with employers in Australia
  • A genuine passion for employment law and for being a true specialist in this area of law
  • A strong work ethic and excellent time management and communication skills
  • A proactive approach to delivering practical and strategic solutions to solve complex legal issues and do so within client time frames
  • The knowledge and experience to be able to provide sound advice to clients in face-to-face meetings or telephone conferences
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the enthusiasm and willingness to provide mentoring to junior lawyers 
  • Strong networking and business development skills to build a strong client base
  • A desire to always deliver excellence to our clients

The following would be beneficial for the role:

  • Experience working with public sector clients, in particular Queensland Government and Local Government; and/or 
  • Being an Accredited Specialist in Workplace Relations Law

Legal Secretary / Accounts Assistant – Sunshine Coast

Aitken Legal is a specialist Employment Law Firm – we only practice employment law and work only with Employers. We have offices on the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Melbourne. This position is based in our Sunshine Coast office.

About the role:

As a Legal Secretary / Accounts Assistant you will play a pivotal role in our daily operations and your responsibilities will span a wide range of tasks across both administration and accounts.

 
Legal Secretarial responsibilities include:

  • Managing incoming calls and correspondence with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Coordinating client onboarding and maintaining client agreements and inputting information into our CRM system.
  • Supporting lawyers by amending correspondence and legal documents as well as transcribing digital dictation.
  • Arranging meetings and managing diaries for the lawyers and assisting with client communications.
  • Maintaining office organisation and upholding high standards in administrative tasks.

Legal Accounts responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Accounts Manager and assisting with day-to-day accounting functions across multiple offices.
  • Assisting with invoicing, payments, bank reconciliations, and debt recovery.
  • Undertaking the day-to-day accounts duties during any period of absence of the Accounts Manager.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in a legal secretarial role is essential and some accounting experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with legal practice management software (experience with Practice Evolve is beneficial, but training can be provided).
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with an exemplary telephone etiquette. This is important because you would be the first impression a prospective client has of our firm, as well as a familiar voice to our regular clients.
